Why do you think it’s important to have women involved in the FinTech industry?

The industry is undergoing rapid change as new players enter the financial services market through fintech. Innovation and disruption are occurring in conjunction with increased diversity which leads to improved innovation and better performance for business. There have been numerous reports on a positive correlation between active participation of women and the economic value.

What advice would you give a woman that is new to the financial services industry or would like to explore a future career in the industry?

Women are a critical part of the future of financial services, and I would love more women to consider the industry for their careers. Businesses with meaningful diversity and inclusion programs will survive and thrive in this ever-fast-changing landscape. Female role models are expanding across the industry, creating a powerful and positive impact.

By supporting one another and by lifting each other up while celebrating accomplishments. We need more female role models/mentors as well as male allies to shift the culture from the ground up.

Why do you think it’s important to have women involved in the FinTech industry?

Women can make a huge difference! They bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the table. Moreover, women are more attuned to the needs and preferences of women customers, hence can help develop products that better meet their needs.

Who are the women that inspire you most in the financial services industry and why?

Ruth Porat, CFO of Alphabet Inc. A very inspiring woman who inspires women to excel in their careers, while maintaining a good work-life balance. She is a survivor of Breast cancer, has broken many stereotypes and shown that women can hold high level positions! She is one of the most powerful CFOs and has been credited with creating European debt financing which saved Amazon and boosted Google’s share price by imposing financial discipline.

Biases and inequalities in the fintech industry should be challenged. We can partner with social impact organizations that work on equity and inclusion to help forge these initiatives within the industry and beyond.

Why do you think it’s important to have women involved in the FinTech industry?

Diversity in a company’s workforce brings new perspectives that can drive innovation. For the fintech industry, involving women in the development and marketing of fintech solutions can help create products that are better suited for a variety of end-users.

What advice would you give a woman that is new to the financial services industry or would like to explore a future career in the industry?

An equitable and inclusive fintech community can be made possible by providing opportunities for development. EquiLend, for example, provides its employees with resources to learn important technical skills and to better understand the financial services industry.

Why do you think it’s important to have women involved in the FinTech industry?

The fintech industry is still very much male-dominated. I think there is a competitive advantage in having equity and diversity in the workforce. Having women involved contributes to a stronger talent pool, brings different perspectives and ideas, promoting innovation and creativity which can overall increase productivity and improve performance.

What advice would you give a woman that is new to the financial services industry or would like to explore a future career in the industry?

One barrier women face in traditionally male-dominated workspaces is a lack of confidence. My advice is to find women in finance that you can relate to. Having role models that show women can thrive in the industry will give you the confidence and motivation needed to pursue a career in finance.

Addressing unconscious bias and implementing processes to mitigate it, promoting transparency and accountability, increasing female representation in leadership roles by promoting high achieving women and collaborating with other organizations to promote equity. Taking these steps will also encourage more women to participate in the industry contributing to a more equitable world.

Why do you think it’s important to have women involved in the FinTech industry?

Having women involved in the fintech industry is important to foster the diversity of strategic ideas in the sector. Particularly in fintech, it’s encouraging to see women on both sides of the business – those demonstrating their financial expertise, and those innovating on the technology side. Additionally, visibility of women in leadership and senior positions helps to reduce ideas of a glass ceiling in the workplace.

What advice would you give a woman that is new to the financial services industry or would like to explore a future career in the industry?

Don’t let preconceived ideas of the industry discourage you from applying for roles or assume that being a woman will hold you back from opportunities. For those new to financial services, seek to build the professional network of women you have around you, at any and all levels – to have a range of support and guidance to navigate the industry.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is Embrace Equity. What key steps do you think we need to take to encourage the FinTech community to help forge an equitable and inclusive world?

Gender diversity initiatives need to be continually pushed and embraced throughout the industry, with the active participation of all genders in recognizing and challenging attitudes that prevent equity and inclusiveness. Promoting gender equity should not be predominantly pushed by women in the fintech community, it should be a collective effort.

Why do you think it’s important to have women involved in the FinTech industry?

Involving women in the fintech industry helps to increase diversity, drive innovation and boost productivity as they could offer different perspectives than their counterparts. It is also important to eliminate the false belief that women lack the expertise and ability to work in this industry.

What advice would you give a woman that is new to the financial services industry or would like to explore a future career in the industry?

The fintech industry is a growing industry for women where people have been making an effort to reduce the large gender gap. If you are interested in working in this industry, don’t hesitate and don’t be afraid to speak up and make your voice heard!

The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is Embrace Equity. What key steps do you think we need to take to encourage the FinTech community to help forge an equitable and inclusive world?

Education and promotion of equity in the fintech industry is essential and sharing successful stories from women across the industry helps to increase awareness. FinTech companies should also consider balancing gender diversity among employees. With efforts from different groups, we will surely get closer to an equitable and inclusive world in no time.
